Caliton Family Farm - Caliton and Honoree have been carving out their community-focused niche in the Fargo-Moorhead area for the past 2 or so decades after their families moved to the States as refugees from Burundi. After graduating from New Roots, they now own land and are one of the main cultivators of African eggplant in the region. They will be bringing African drums to the Saturday night festivities and it will be awesome!
Saturday
Morning - Breakfast at 7am
Compost workshop / community farm chore party - Prairie Rose / New Roots Incubator
Intros at 8:15
Workshop on static aerated compost system - led by Jeremy, local compost expert, participants will get to learn about and build this great option for farms that don't have time / capacity to be turning compost regularly.
Farm Chores Compost tea distribution and other chores.
Mid day break - maybe 11:30/noon - for lunch and an afternoon of exploration. It will likely be hot then, which is a great time for the Farm Buds to be heading into cooler spaces. We'll visit the Fargo Farmers Market, some community gardens in Fargo and Moorhead and then will get some free time.
6pm - reconvene to visit Caliton Family Farm to learn about what they do, connect with them and support them with some weeding.
8pm dinner together with campfire and storytelling afterwards.
Sunday breakfast and beyond - breakfast and farm support
8:30 gather at Prairie Rose for coffee + granola bars + fruit + intros + farm projects at PR and/or New Roots!
This is a great trip for folks who are interested in learning about organic compost systems, connecting with people / work being done in different parts of the state, experiencing cultural diversity around Minnesota, are interested in learning about and supporting community farming models.
