The Certificate in Public Policy is intended for graduate students who wish to prepare themselves better for jobs in the public and non-profit sectors as well as academia. The Certificate signals to employers that the student has a solid foundation in concepts, knowledge, and practical tools of public policymaking, implementation, evaluation and analysis. The certificate can be completed either in-person at Temple's Center City campus or completely online.
PROGRAM REQUIREMENTS
Students must complete 12 total credits of coursework:
ECON 5102: Economic Decisions for Public Policy (3 credits)
PLCY 8119: Public Policy Analysis (3 credits)
PLCY 8118: The Policymaking Process (3 credits)
GUS 5165: Program Evaluation (3 credits)
Students must successfully pass all four courses, with a minimum GPA of 3.0, to earn the certificate. All 12 credits earned as a certificate student with a 3.0 or better may count towards the MPP degree if the student is admitted to the MPP program.
INTERNAL APPLICANT REQUIREMENTS
All current Temple graduate students in Master’s or Ph.D. programs are automatically eligible to complete the certificate. Internal applicants only need to complete the form below and have their graduate director send an approval email to
mpp@temple.edu.
EXTERNAL APPLICANT REQUIREMENTS
Applications for the certificate will be considered on a rolling basis. In addition to completing this form, all external applicants must submit the following to be considered for admission:
1. Official undergraduate and (if applicable) graduate transcripts.
2. A personal statement of approximately 250 words indicating interests, plans, and objectives within the field of public policy.
3. Two letters of recommendation from persons in a position to evaluate the applicant’s ability and accomplishments.
4. Current resume.
