Connections to East Asia can be found in surprising places.
Local museums, libraries, cemeteries and other locations help us to understand our
historical and contemporary links. How do you use those resources in your
classroom to teach about the people, places and events of both your local area
and locations in China, Japan, Korea and Taiwan?
Join us at the St. Johnsbury Athenaeum in St. Johnsbury, VT on
April 5 from 10am-2pm to explore the Japanese scroll and print treasures at the
St. Johnsbury Athenaeum. Discover how these resources can be used as tools to
learn about the history and culture of pre-20th century Japan. Are there hidden
resources in your town that can be used to teach about East Asia? We’ll spend
some time sharing possible resources in your community.
In-service K-12 educators, including specialists and administrators,
are invited to register. Retired educators are welcome to join as well. Participants
will receive materials, lunch, and a certificate of completion for 4 contact
hours. Questions? Anne Prescott, aprescott@fivecolleges.edu
