"I use the same skills for creating music as I do for designing sounds. The biggest difference to me is that sound design is functional whereas music is a means for artistic expression.

My main musical instrument is iPad – and has been so ever since the introduction of the first model. Thanks to all its sensors, portability and big touch screen, I got interested in the possibilities of iPad as a musical instrument.

I graduated as a Master of Arts in Sound in New Media from Aalto University in Helsinki in 2016. Big part of my studies was how touch screen devices can be used as musical instruments. I also did my MA thesis on the topic: Padworks – Building a solo live performance with iPad. I give workshops on iOS music and how to use iOS devices for music making and performance.

My main musical projects are Ahva and Small Peaces."

// ÄÄNIAALTO IV
ÄÄNIAALTO is an annual sound oriented new media festival. ÄÄNIAALTO IV brings installations, performances and hands-on workshops under the topics of robotic instruments, generative systems, DIY/custom instruments, nonlinear narratives in sound performance, live coding, multichannel audio, and the intersection between biology and sound among other explorations.

Throughout its different editions, ÄÄNIAALTO has become a linking platform between emerging promises in the field and established artists.

The aim of ÄÄNIAALTO is to create a fluent network in the sonic new media scene of Helsinki and an open culture accessible to anybody interested in learning and engaging with the new media’s practices

The 4th edition of ÄÄNIAALTO extends through March in order to provide Helsinki's audience with a month of new media and sound art.
