Our Mission

Our mission at AOMC ― in partnership with education, workforce, and economic development ― is to create manufacturer-led solutions that motivate and prepare youth and incumbent workers to enter and advance in manufacturing careers at our region’s manufacturing companies and to provide the required skills, training, and credentials. Our sponsors include Ohio Means Jobs – Athens, and supporting organizations include Project RISE, Futureplans, Building Bridges to Careers, and Ohio University.

Currently, AOMC is working to help find, train, and support new employees to fill the staffing needs of our region’s manufacturing companies. We are inviting you to participate in our Manufacturing Job Fair Tour so that we can help you find your next employee. The event will be held at the Athens County Community Center on February 7, 2024, from 10:00 AM to 1:00 PM. Check-in begins at 9:00 AM, and break-down and exit is at 2:00 PM. The Manufacturing Job Fair Tour is one of three such events planned for surrounding counties with the goal of bringing awareness of manufacturing opportunities to job seekers.

We are working closely with area high-school graduating seniors who have expressed an interest in manufacturing, and we are also advertising employment opportunities to the general public to increase their awareness of manufacturing career benefits.

AOMC is also working with AmericaMakes, the nation’s leading public-private partnership for additive manufacturing (AM) technology and education. In collaboration with AOMC, AmericaMakes has compiled its Regional Guide to 21st Century Talent, providing best practices, regional resources, and content to support small and medium manufacturers with such workforce challenges as recruitment, training, and retention.

In addition to inviting you to the February 7 job fair, we are also inviting you to participate in our pilot Workforce Development Workshop that is planned for February 21 from 1-3:30pm with lunch provided. We will work through activities outlined in the AmericaMakes Regional Guide and discuss how to best impact the region with this new tool. We especially encourage human resource professionals, trainers, and executives to attend. We hope that you will accept this invitation. By doing so, you will help us determine the most suitable time and place to hold the event. Let’s all work together to build Appalachia!
