Contribute to Daftar! 
**PLEASE READ**

We're always looking for people to contribute to afikra's online journal, Daftar. Our content aims to spark curiosity in our readers and highlight the vibrant and diverse cultures and histories of the Arab world. If you already have a topic in mind, make sure to drop it below. Otherwise, we have a few loose categories of articles that we publish regularly:

➞ Profiles on historic or modern Arab figures that have contributed to the histories and cultures of the region

➞ Profiles on places: cities, neighborhoods and even streets in the Arab world with a rich history and/or contemporary culture that we should know more about (this can even include interviews with key cultural players in these places). Think about famous streets, ancient cities, or culturally loaded landmarks that you think would be work writing about. 

➞ Interviews/Q&As with people whose work is concerned with understanding or is shaping the Arab world. They can come from any field: media, arts, academia, you name it. 

➞ Reviews: if you're knowledgeable about Arab film, books or music, you might want to think about reviewing something you've watched, read or listened to lately. 

➞ Tsawwar: if you're a photographer, you can contribute a photo you've taken and share the story behind it. Tell us what camera you used, why you captured the moment, and all the other details behind it. 

Editorial guidelines:
  • All our content aligns with afikra's core values (find them here)
  • We try to keep the pieces as factual as possible (less about the writer's or our personal opinions), but non-academic in style – so although it should be well-written it should remain fun and engaging 
  • There's no minimum word count, but we prefer not to exceed 1000 words (unless there's a lot of academic research done on the topic from your side in which case you can let us know what you are aiming for)
  • Include photos to go along with the piece (in decent to high resolution) 
  • Include resources and credits where they're due
  • Deadlines are set by the contributors to ensure they can meet them
