At the Boston Child Study Center (BCSC), we are happy to offer a weekly 1-hour support group to students who are experiencing Islamophobia and loss of their sense of safety. We will meet on Mondays at 2:00pm EST, starting on Monday, Dec. 18, 2023.
On Nov 8, 2023, the Massachusetts chapter of the Council on American Islamic Relations (CAIR-MA) published a report that detailed a 300% increase in calls for help during the month of October, compared to the same period last year. This increase was attributed to the impact of events in Gaza and the West Bank and a related surge in Isalamophobic rhetoric and hate incidents targeting Muslim, immigrant, and Arab communities across the United States The BCSC online support groups will be presented on Zoom, led by two clinicians and will be provided entirely pro-bono (without charge). They will be set up on a weekly drop-in basis. We will focus on discussing personal experiences, effective coping strategies, and connecting with community members to give and receive support. Our heartfelt intention is to offer support to young adults who are impacted by Islamophobia and fear for their safety in Massachusetts.
Each group meeting will have a limit of 15 participants. However, we would love to include everyone who wants to join. If there is a high demand, we will consider adding a second support group per week.
Thank you for your interest in attending the support group and we hope to see you soon!
