Letter By Letter: Vermont and New Hampshire Prison Penpal Sign Up
This form is for people who are interested in forming a penpal friendship with those who are incarcerated in the Vermont and New Hampshire prison systems. We know that prisons destroy the bonds of family and friendship. Building connection with a person who has been incarcerated through letter-writing promotes a culture of healing and harm reduction. We hope that by building community and creating this culture of change we can stop the cycle of harm that the prison system perpetuates. You don't have to be a VT or NH resident to have a VT/NH penpal, you can write from anywhere!

Are you under 18?  (Unfortunately we can only invite people 18 years of age and older to be penpals, for the safety of our incarcerated members.) *
From who or how did you hear about this project? (We want to know if the outreach we've been doing is working!) *
Have you read our Penpal Guidelines? *
Why do you want a prison penpal? *
Are there areas of interest (hobbies, passions, religion) or identity (age, gender, member of LGBTQ/POC/disabled community, spoken language) that you'd like to share with a prospective pen-pal?
Do you already know someone inside who you want to write to? (If so, what's their name?)
It is important to recognize the power dynamic between people on the outside and people on the inside, as well as the gravity of a decision to offer your friendship to someone incarcerated. Are you willing and able to respond consistently? *
In order to identify people who want penpals, as well as to show support and extend humanity to people incarcerated and to foster accountability in the DOC around the way that inmates are treated, we're sending a letter to every single incarcerated person in Vermont and New Hampshire. In addition to wanting an ongoing penpal, would you be willing to write a few "one-off" letters of solidarity to help us meet that goal? *
