T-131 Scuba Certification and Merit Badge Interest Form

Dec. 7 (Sat)     Scout Discover Scuba

Spend a day at the Chinquapin pool experiencing Scuba diving with qualified instructors.  This event will introduce Scouts (and registered adults) to the skills, equipment and safety precautions associated with Scuba diving.  This is not a full scuba certification course, nor sufficient to earn the Scuba Merit Badge.  Rather, it serves as an opportunity to "test the waters" for those considering working towards a Scuba certification and the Scuba Merit Badge.  This course is equivalent to the the National Association of Underwater Instructors (NAUI) "Introduction to SCUBA" program and those Scouts completing it will receive the the Scout Scuba Patch.  Prior to the pool day, participants must complete an online course.

Cost:  [$99]

[*Participants that complete the program are eligible for a $50 credit towards an Open Water SCUBA certification course at Blue Octopus SCUBA described below]

May 2-4:    Confined Water Course

This is the first part of a two-part curriculum for obtaining a Scuba open water certification and receiving the Scuba Diving Merit Badge.  Participants will first be required to complete an online learning course.  On the evening of Friday, May 2, participants will attend a in-person class at Blue Octopus Dive Shop to review the academic materials covered in the online course and get familiarized with the equipment.  The next two days will be spent in the pool practicing the diving skills and drills for scuba diving.  Upon completion of this course, participants will be ready for the final, open water, portion of the diving certification curriculum.

Cost: [$450]

[June 6-8:]    Scuba Campout & Open Water Course

This is the final portion of the Scuba Certification.  We will campout at Lake Phoenix in Rawlings, VA.  Participants will arrive on Friday evening to set up camp.  Saturday and Sunday morning will be spent diving in the lake with the instructors, where participants will perform the skills and drills nectary to become scuba certified.  Upon completion of all requirements on Sunday, the diver gets to walk up on the beach and ring the bell signaling they are a new certified diver.

An additional class (date TBD) will be required to complete the few Scout specific requirements (first aid, water ecology, careers in scuba, etc.) for the Scuba Diver Merit Badge.

Cost: [$450].
