Call for Proposals

The Program Committee for the 2017 AATM Annual Conference seeks proposals from educators interested in contributing to this professional learning experience. Questions may be addressed to Jaclyn Wood at jwood@fusdaz.org.

Program Overview
The Program Committee for the 2017 AATM Annual Conference seeks proposals to address the theme: “Engaging, Empowering, and Energizing ALL Students”.

Sessions should provide opportunities for equipping teachers to be successful in the teaching of, and leading students in becoming effective learners of mathematics. These can include classroom-ready strategies for instruction and/or assessment, lesson plans or research findings. Further, direct connections with the (Approved 12/2016) Arizona Mathematics Standards including the Standards for Mathematical Practice should be made.

Proposals should address at least one of the following strands:

Engaging: Sessions for this strand focus on student involvement in the active learning of mathematics. Such sessions could include, but are not limited to, specific mathematical topics or standards, STEM, hands-on activities and strategies, developing conceptual understandings and high-level tasks, grouping strategies, or other instructional methods that activate students in the learning and assessing process.

Empowering: Sessions for this strand center on providing opportunities for students to exhibit themselves as powerful mathematicians. Topics might include, but are not limited to, addressing equity, student leadership in the classroom, and/or differentiation.

Energizing: Sessions for this strand address the disposition of teachers and students in learning mathematics. These can include, but are not limited to, productive disposition, mathematical mindset theory and strategies, and motivation factors.

With the above goals in mind, we welcome proposals from a wide range of educators and offer to assist teachers, researchers, or others who might be new to developing proposals, preparing presentations, or speaking at conferences. The option to work with a mentor for preparing the presentation appears on the Proposal Form If you prefer the mentoring process begin at the proposal development stage, contact Jaclyn Wood, jwood@fusdaz.org.


Proposal Review Criteria
Your proposed session will be evaluated based on the following:
Relevance:
• Does the proposed session address one of the four conference strands?
• Will the proposed session entice participation of the audience?
• For assessment: does the proposal address a variety of options to demonstrate the evaluation of the content standards?
• For general category submissions: is the topic of high interest, grade level appropriate and engaging to students?

Quality:
• Does the proposal clearly communicate what will happen during the session?
• Does the proposal describe how the participants will be engaged?
• Is the proposal written well?

Impact
• Will the session take participants to a deeper understanding of how to help students become successful in assessment before, during, and after instruction?
• Does the session provide examples of how teachers might connect student assessment to specific content standards?
• Does the session include practical strategies and/or activities to be used in the classroom/school setting?
• Does the session have the potential to increase mathematical rigor through addressing conceptual understanding, application and mathematical fluency?

Additional Information
• AATM will announce selected proposals no later than July 1, 2017
• Presenters will receive complimentary conference registration, lunch, and a one-year AATM membership (one presenter per session)
• ASU provides Large Screen Monitors. (Please bring a Macintosh adapter, if you wish to use a Macintosh for presentation.) Presenters should bring their own laptops and other presentation equipment and materials to the venue.
• ASU will provide projectors in each room. All rooms will be set up with tables and chairs.
• Once rooms are assigned, presenters will be notified of the room capacity.
