PURPOSE: to understand your responsibilities when you check out (borrow) an item from Edmonds College.

WHO: You are a student who is enrolled in at least one (1) course in the quarter when you are borrowing the item.

AGREEMENT VOCABULARY:

item = Chromebook, laptop, or other technology item

pieces of an item = the item has several parts (example: a charging cord)

fragile items = items that break easily (example: Chromebooks or laptops)

Borrower responsibilities: By initialing each of the statements below, I (the Borrower) agree to the following terms and conditions:

FINANCIALLY RESPONSIBLE: When you check out this item, you agree to pay for any item, or its pieces, that are lost or damaged because of accident, theft, misuse, or carelessness.

AUTHORIZED USE: The borrower must present an Edmonds College student ID at the time of checkout. Only the borrower is authorized to use the laptop (with charger) and borrower agrees not to lend, share or otherwise provide access to the laptop to any person other than technical support personnel at the Student Service Desk. The laptop is intended for Edmonds College academic use only. Any use of the laptop for other purposes is not authorized by Edmonds College. The borrower agrees to follow Edmonds College’s copyright policy (rules) and Campus Technology Policy.

RETURN IN SAME CONDITION: Information Technology Service Management (ITSM) checks out items in good working condition and free of major damage. You agree to return items in good working condition and free of major damage. If items have major damage or are missing, and they cannot be used by another student, you will pay for replacements of those items. You are not responsible for software or hardware that breaks because of age or manufacturer problems. Chromebooks and cords cost between $130-$500, but those prices can change at any time.

RESPONSIBLE FOR DUE DATE: All checked out devices must be returned at the end of each quarter. The due date is when the item must be returned to the ITSM, Alderwood Hall-first floor. You agree to return items promptly. If an item is not returned 5 business days after the quarter end date, ITSM will mark the items as lost. When we mark an item lost, you must pay for replacement of that item and its pieces. If you return the item and its pieces, you will not have to pay for replacement.

RETURN ALL PIECES OF AN ITEM TOGETHER: You agree to return all pieces that go with an item. You will pay for replacement of any missing pieces.

RETURN FRAGILE ITEMS TO A STAFF PERSON: You agree to give fragile items to an ITSM employee located in Alderwood Hall, first floor. If the item is lost or has major damage, you will pay for its repair or replacement.

COMMUNICATION AND HELP: ITSM will send you emails to remind you about what you checked out and when it is due. You can also log into One Search and see information about what you checked out and when it is due. You can ask for technology assistance in Alderwood hall, first floor.

APPEALS: If the library says you owe money, and you believe you do not owe money, you can appeal. Appeal means you can ask the library to change whether you owe money based on particular reasons.

LOSS OF BORROWING PRIVILEGES: If you do not follow the above responsibilities, you may not be able to borrow other items.

PRIVACY AND DATA: The College may sometimes gather information about borrowing activity in order to improve College services.

Edmonds College will let you BORROW a Chromebook to complete work for the current classes you are registered in. This laptop is NOT for you to keep.

I agree that I will be the only user of this laptop. I understand that lending or renting the laptop to anyone is a violation of this agreement.
