Waiting List Magnet Bus Application 2018-19 School Year

Per South Carolina Code of Laws and the James Island Charter High School By-Laws, James Island Charter High School is only required to transport students who are assigned to Attendance Zone 3, which is James Island and Folly Beach. Transportation for open enrollment students is the responsibility of the parents or guardians.

HOWEVER, the JICHS Board of Directors has approved funding for the Magnet Bus Service for the 2018-19 school year. The Magnet Bus Service will again send two buses to Johns Island and two buses to West Ashley. Each bus has a capacity of 43 students. Currently all buses are full. We will conduct a lottery once a month when seats are available after our monthly audit.

Cost for the Magnet Bus Service for all students will be $100 per semester or $200 for the entire school year (see below for more details). Payment will be due when your student receives a seat on the bus. You will have 1 week to submit a payment or lose the seat. Remember, riding on this bus is a privilege. Students who violate the JICHS Student Code of Conduct may be dismissed from this service. NO MONEY WILL BE REFUNDED IN THE CASE OF DISCIPLINARY DISMISSALS. Also, because the Magnet Bus Service operates at capacity, students are not permitted to switch from one bus to another. Students are expected to arrive at their bus stops 5-10 minutes prior to the scheduled pick-up time.

Please visit the James Island Charter High School website for the most up-to-date bus stops and times. Your information will be provided to the bus driver in order to ensure that only registered students ride on the bus. As part our bus service with SchoolWheels Direct, your child’s school ID card must be scanned as they enter the bus. SchoolWheels Direct provides a modernized school bus fleet with state-of-the-art technology and safety features.

We hope that this service helps families and allows more students to choose James Island Charter High School as their school of choice. If you have any questions, comments, and/or concerns, please feel free to contact Mrs. Doane 843-762-5349 or email at Jodyann_Doane@charleston.k12.sc.us.
