Category Placement Petition

The category placement system assigns student-athletes in race categories based on their ACA race history, or in the rider’s age-based category if they have no ACA race history. Category placement is grounded in safety, placing riders in the category that they are most likely to be with student-athletes of similar ability and pace. Petitions for an upgrade in categories should, therefore, demonstrate that:

  1. The student-athlete’s performance and experience level clearly meets the level of the other riders in the category for which the racer is petitioning; and 

  2. The upgrade will place the student into a more appropriate competitive peer group.

This form should be completed after consultation between a student-athlete, the student-athlete’s parent/guardian, and the student-athlete’s coach. This form must be completed by the head coach.
