"I am pleased to support the Michaux State Forest's decision to locate their new Resource Management Center to the site currently leased to the South Mountain Golf Course. This decision increases access to Michaux State Forest, giving many more area residents and visitors free access to the site as well as many opportunities to learn about our local legacy of forestry and outdoor recreation, and aligns the site with the mission of the State Forest and the broader South Mountain Partnership conservation network, to protect and promote our region's natural resources."
Added 4/25: "I am pleased to support the Michaux State Forest's decision to locate the new Resource Management Center (RCM) on the State Forest property currently leased to the South Mountain Golf Course. This is the best decision because it provides the greatest good to the most people - it is what is best in the long term and is the most strategic decision. Some of the reasons include: 1) It will allow the site to be used by all Forest user types (for free) rather than only one forest user group (for a cost). I trust that Michaux District Office staff have carefully considered the needs of all forest user types and have chosen the best location. 2) The Golf Course lessee was informed both prior to renewing the lease in 2015, and several times over the past ten-year leasing period that it was very unlikely the lease would be renewed in 2025. 3) The chosen site greatly improves Michaux District Office staff, equipment, and logistical challenges. 4) This site represents a once in 50 year or more opportunity to invest in the people and visitors to this area - it is good for residents and visitors and for our area's growing outdoor recreation economy."
