2018 NextGen Regional Internship Program
The NextGen Regional Internship Program provides a 9-week paid internship experience to youth and young adults ages 16-21. Prior to entering the internship, participants will attend over 30 hours of required jobs skills and workplace readiness training lead by career coaches and working professionals.

Program Requirements:

-Applicants must reside in either Chesapeake, VA or Portsmouth, VA.
-Applicants must be able to commit to attend the required 30 hours of training prior to beginning the internship.
-Applicants must be able to commit to be in town and available to work for the 9 week period between June 1, 2018-September 1, 2018.
-Applicants must be eligible to work in the United States of America.

Space is limited in this program.

Priority Will Be Given to Youth with One or More of the Following Barriers:
a. Recipient of Free or Reduced Lunch
b. Offender
c. Homeless
d. Foster Care
e. Pregnant or Parenting
f. Disability

Application Process
Stage One: March 1, 2018 - March 31, 2018 (extended to May 10)

The Application will be open from March 1, 2018- May 10, 2018. Applications must be submitted no later than 11:59pm on May 10, 2018. Late applications will not be considered.

Completed Applications MUST include the following:
-Submitting the online application below
-Resume and personal statement (see application for details) emailed to youthcareercenter@oihr.org

Stage Two:

-Up to 20 youth in Chesapeake and 20 youth in Portsmouth will be selected from the online application to participate in an in-person interview.

-Applicants interviewed will be required to bring documentation of: locality of residence, right to work (if not a US citizen), and any barriers selected in the application. Interviewees will be provided with a list of approved documents for verification when they are selected for the interview.

Stage Three:

All offers of employment in the NextGen Regional Summer Internship Program will be made by 11:59pm on May 10, 2018. Interns will be required to provide hiring documents including: picture id and social security card. It is highly advised that applicants make sure they have access to these items prior to May 10, 2018.
