What is MyPath?
MyPath is a national nonprofit based in the Mission District that helps youth and young adults get banked and build savings, credit and financial confidence. Because we understand that banking can sometimes be intimidating or confusing for youth, MyPath strives to improve the banking system to create more youth friendly policies. MyPath Youth Leaders help shape our advocacy work, choose and create a financial justice project and customize our financial curriculum, all of which impact youth across the country.

The Youth Leadership Program is active July 2019-May 2020
All participants can receive a monthly stipend of up to $111

Youth Leadership Program Description

MyPath Advocates’ New Economic Rights for All (New ERA): is a group of community youth leaders who focus on identifying solutions to support financial inclusion for youth. This means we work to educate, empower and organize with a goal to make concrete changes for youth around issues involving money. This group will be trained to make strategic decisions, facilitate meetings, and work on a creative financial justice project.

During the Summer, this group will meet other high school aged youth throughout San Francisco, build connections and have fun! We will also get to explore our own financial stories and see how our stories fit into the larger picture of financial access.

During the school year, this group will focus on a financial justice project with key components including policy advocacy, and use of creative ways to address youth financial empowerment. We believe every youth deserves to have access to a SAFE bank account of their own. You will get a savings and checking account with a debit card, learn how to manage your money, gain knowledge about credit and learn concrete tools to establish and maintain good credit. You will work with a team of 21 other youth across the city, develop money management skills and make change through art and policy. You will learn how to publicly speak and how to facilitate large groups (ex: advocating at the state level for a legislative bill and designing a youth led creative financial project or youth-friendly financial curriculum).
