Yarrow Intergenerational Society for Justice Volunteer Application
Thank you for your interest in volunteering with Yarrow Intergenerational Society for Justice!

Yarrow is a youth and senior driven organization in DTES and Chinatown with a vision of a thriving, equitable, and intergenerational Chinatown. We provide outreach to isolated seniors, interpretation and translation services, advocacy, and diverse programming that builds bridges between generations. We combine service provision and grassroots organizing, with a core belief that service work is political and that as a community, we have the tools we need to take care of one another. We empower seniors and youth to work together to improve their communities and tackle the difficult problems of oppression and violence.

1. Medical Accompaniment
Yarrow’s most commonly requested service is medical accompaniment. We support Chinese seniors in accessing healthcare by accompanying them to medical accompaniments, providing support on public transportation to and from appointments, and providing Chinese-English interpretation. Volunteers will be provided training prior to attending appointments.

2. Sticky Rice Collective
The Sticky Rice Collective is a group of youth who collaboratively plan intergenerational events in Chinatown. Previously, we have planned picnics, game show events, and festival celebrations. This year, intergenerational friendly visiting at Chinese senior residential buildings will be our main focus.

3. COVID-19 Senior Support
Grocery deliveries (car required)
Senior Phone call check-ins (car not required)

4. Language Access to Health Care Campaign
Yarrow’s campaign ensures that we address these urgent health care concerns and start building the foundation for a long-term system of care. We are building a team of people interested in supporting this campaign and call on you, our community, to join us in working collaboratively towards these goals! We welcome all skill sets and skill levels – artists, organizers, healthcare workers, data analysts, writers, researchers, etc. – there's a role for you! Teams include: Communications, Organizing, Strategy, External, Research, etc.
