The purpose of committees is to advance the DFL Senior Caucus mission and goals to bring outreach, focus and promotion to senior issues.

When you sign up for a committee your contact information will go to the Committee Chair. The Committee Chair will then be able to reach out to you! Yay!

Committee Descriptions
Events Committee
Chairs Don Slaten & Barb Mahowald
Purpose:
  • Manage and coordinate the 5 main Senior Caucus annual events; and manage and coordinate additional events that arise
  • Solicit speakers
  • Create media (flyers, etc.)
Political Affairs Committee
Chair Eric Won
Purpose:
  1. Platforms and resolutions
  2. Legislative and executive branch education and liaison
  3. Endorsements process and plan.
  4. Special processes (e.g. SS Expansion Act)
  • Write documents
  • Speak to legislators
  • Post to social media
Technology Committee
Chair Bill Middlecamp
Purpose:
Manage technologies and volunteers on behalf of the Senior Caucus. Assist committee chair. Facilitate use of the following applications:
  1. Zoom
  2. Wordpress & web technologies
  3. Google Tools
  4. Mailchimp
  5. DFL VAN
  6. Action Network
Communication Committee
Chair Jocelyn Heid
Purpose:
  • Assist in the creation of messaging across committees
  • Update and coordinate content in communication avenues
  • Writing, posting on social media
  • Flyer creation, assist with Telephone Tree, assist with email blasts
Chapter Chair Coordinator Committee
Chair Mel Aanerud
Purpose:
  • Attend monthly Chapter Chair meetings
  • Assist with coordination of Chapter efforts
  • Update information as needed on available speakers across the chapters to give to the web master
  • Writing, Listening, Updating
Education Committee
Chair Diane Solinger
Purpose:
  • The purpose of the Education Committee is to educate Minnesota Seniors about the existence, purpose and accomplishments of the DFL Senior Caucus on behalf of Minnesota Seniors.
  • Educate external entities on Senior Caucus; establish School Board criteria checklist
  • Writing, speaking, training on informing others of the DFL Senior Caucus
Governance Committee
Chair Nancy Stroessner
Purpose:
  • Manage, create, update governing documents, primarily the SC Charter and Chapter Charters
  • coordinate with DFL CBRC
  • research DFL policy questions
Membership Committee
Chair Jennifer Willette
Purpose:
  • Manage membership data and information; update board; manage & create recruitment blasts; use Action Network
  • Use of google forms, spreadsheets, mail merge, Action Network
  • Assist in outreach and inclusion efforts
  • Assist in increasing membership through Chapter recruitment
Book Group
Chair Cindy Spellman (facilitator)
Purpose:
  • Monthly discussion of books chosen by attendees
  • Attend meetings
  • Recruit members to book meeting
  • Assist facilitator
Chapter Development Committee
Chairs Jennifer Willette & Kay Hendrikson
Purpose:
  • Sales and recruitment to greater MN for new chapters; communication; technical skills, writing skills, reach a network in greater MN.
