4th Symposium on Public Festivities: Prague - Basel - Brussels
Playful public realm as democratic expression: How urban parades contribute to the formation of civic society

Velvet Carnival, Charles University and the Swiss Embassy invite to the symposium that examines how urban rituals in the form of creative parades contribute to shaping public space, identity and civic imagination, and how they intertwine with urban planning and cultural narratives.

Representatives from the context of the Velvet Carnival (Prague), Fasnacht (Basel), Zinneke Parade (Brussels) will share their perspectives, introduced by a keynote speech by Prof. Dr. Eric Corijn (Cosmopolis Centre for Urban Research, Free University Brussels), followed by insights from further invited guests, including the Prague Institute of Planning and Development (IPR Prague) and Creative Prague.

The symposium invites professionals and practitioners to join and take part in an open discussion with all participants.
