All fourth and fifth grade students are encouraged to learn to play a musical instrument in the Band or Orchestra in school here at Livingston Public Schools.

Please make sure you have watched the Instrumental Demonstration video from the district's Instrumental Music Teachers demonstrating each instrument available to your child next year. Your school's Instrumental Music Teacher will also be visiting an upcoming virtual meet with your child's class to discuss more details about the program. https://youtu.be/nuf0A9mOzIQ

Obtaining an Instrument *

Please indicate your plan for obtaining an instrument for your child. • • • • • • Note that most instruments must be provided by the parent/guardian. We recommend that an instrument be rented for a beginning instrumental student. (We recommend against purchasing an instrument at this time.) • • • • • • A limited number of the larger instruments (Viola, Cello, Trombone, Baritone Horn) are owned by the district and are available at no charge on a first come-first served basis. School owned instruments will be sanitized before the start of school in September. • • • • • • If your family owns an instrument, your child is welcome to use that instrument for instruction at school provided that it is in good playing condition and has been recently serviced by a music repairperson.

Rent - I will contact one of the recommended music shops.

Borrow - I have chosen Trombone, Baritone Horn, Viola or Cello and would like to borrow an instrument if available.

Own - We already have an instrument of interest to our child. It has been checked and/or serviced by a repairperson.
