Please read the following information about consent to the individual if this survey is conducted over the phone:
Freedom for Immigrants is a national nonprofit working to abolish the U.S. immigration detention system. This survey seeks to illustrate the devastating and far-reaching, but not always visible, effects of the U.S. immigration detention system on our individual and collective mental health. In addition, we hope to identify and strengthen community-based resources for resilience and resistance at this critical time when the lives of so many are at risk. You are being asked to participate in this research because of your experience and knowledge.
Please consider the following before deciding whether or not to participate in this research: ● Your participation in this study is confidential. Your name will NOT be recorded on or in any way attached to your responses to the survey. ● There are no anticipated risks associated with participating in this study. ● There are no immediate direct benefits to you for participating in the survey. At the end of the study we will write a report, which will document the collective experiences of all of those who participate in the study. The report will provide the public with information on the mental and emotional impacts of the U.S. immigration detention system and ways to support people in detention.● Some of the questions ask about particularly sensitive issues, such as suicide and abuse. We have tried to flag those questions to enable you to skip them if you wish. Of course, you can skip any questions that you would prefer not to answer! (You will see a *** before questions considered to be highly sensitive).
