Demand Meaningful Protection, not Borders!
Please, call New Mexico Senators Tom Udall (202) 224-6621 and Martin Heinrich (202) 224-5521.
Tell them the proposed federal legislation to protect Greater Chaco is a step in the right direction, but it fails to address impacts from existing oil and gas development.

Here's a sample script. Tell the person who answers the phone:

"Hi, my name is _________ and I live in (CITY), New Mexico, (ZIP CODE).* I'm calling to thank Senator (Udall/Heinrich) for taking a step in the right direction to protect Greater Chaco, but the proposed federal legislation does nothing to address impacts from existing oil and gas development.

The legislation fails to address health and cultural impacts, poor air quality, protections for outlier sacred sites and landscape level cultural management, unsafe road conditions, public safety, infringed human and civil rights, tribal sovereignty, oil and gas royalty issues, and more.

I want to see an immediate moratorium on all new leasing and drilling activities, for meaningful and lawful consultation with impacted communities, and for environmental justice issues to be addressed. This legislation isn’t enough, and the fight to protect our future and our past is far from over.
