Australian Opinions on War and Conflict
Under the current system, the Prime Minister is not required to consult Parliament before deciding whether to go to war. Recent surveys have shown that 90% of Australians don’t support this system, yet politicians have remained unwilling to change their approach.

As part of a research project for Macquarie University, working in conjunction with Australians for War Powers Reform, we are investigating why this apparent support hasn’t been transformed into meaningful change, and whether this statistic accurately reflects the views of the wider Australian population. This survey consists of two demographic questions and three substantive questions inquiring into the public attitudes towards war powers and military affairs in Australia.
