Recently, the Ministry of Home Affairs set up a committee to reform the criminal laws in the country. This committee has been given a six-months deadline to submit their recommendations. In addition, this committee has absolutely no diversity, with no women, the scheduled castes and tribes, or LGBTQIA representation. As students of the law, it is completely unacceptable that such an important process is being conducted so hastily. Effective consultation is impossible now during the COVID-19 lockdown, and millions of voices from the rural areas and those from economically depressed classes will be silenced.
