Establishment of the Church

In lesson 10, we learned that the church is a very important institution. All the saved are in it. Everyone should desire to be a member of it who wishes to be saved. Our study in this lesson directs our attention to the establishment of the church, which is also a very important study. Jesus said, “Every plant, which my heavenly Father hath not planted, shall be rooted up” (Matthew 15:13), and David said, “Except the Lord build the house, they labor in vain that build it” (Psalms 127:1). Both of these passages point out the necessity of being a member of the church that Jesus built, for all others “shall be rooted up.” One means of identifying the Lord’s church is to consider the time of its establishment . Any church claiming to have been established at the time other than the time set in the Bible could not be the church of Christ. The Bible clearly sets the time of the church’s establishment, as our study shall reveal. Let us go to the Bible for the establishment of the church.

1. Isaiah said, in Isaiah 2:2-3,
“Now it shall come to pass in the ________ _____,

*From this prophecy, we learn that the Lord’s HOUSE is to be established in the LAST DAYS in the city of JERUSALEM and ALL NATIONS shall flow unto it. Keep these points in mind as we look for its fulfillment. (Note that the church could not be established while the law was in force, because it was given only to the Israelites, but all nations were to constitute the house of God. Thus the fulfillment will have to come after the death of Christ - See Colossians 2:14).

Having considered these passages of prophecy, we have learned that the kingdom, which is the church, was AT HAND; that it would come during the lifetime of the twelve; that it would come when the PROMISE of the HOLY SPIRIT was sent from the Father; when ALL NATIONS should have repentance and remission of sins preached unto them; and it would come in the city of JERUSALEM. Compare these prophecies with the one from Isaiah and you will see that they are identical in all points.

We are now ready to see the fulfillment. While working the next exercise, keep in mind these prophecies and you will see their fulfillment.
