Lahore International Conference on Culture

The Lahore International Conference on Culture will bring together a range of research scholars, practitioners and learners to discuss new orders of Cultural Diversity, Multicultural Cities for Sustainable Development, Creating a Cultural Identity, preservation of Tangible and Intangible Cultural Heritage and role of Media in promoting Culture for Nationalism.
In this conference participants are invited to explore and question the ways in which cultural struggle characterizes our present times. Culture is a set of rules and behavioral patterns we learn with socialization. Culture is the fabric of meaning making, understanding its relationship to politics and society is crucial. Cultural struggle, for instance, alerts us to the political dynamics of how meaning making is controlled, contested and communicated through the core institutions of society such as media, education, law, medicine, government, the family, religion, the market and so on – all of which impact upon and influence everyday life.

Lahore is the capital city of the province of Punjab, the second-largest metropolitan area in Pakistan and the 18th-most-populous city in the world. It is an important historical center in South Asia. With a rich history dating back over a millennium, Lahore is a main cultural center of the Punjab region and Pakistan, and is the largest Punjabi city in the world. Lahore remains an economic, political, transportation, entertainment, and educational hub of Pakistan.
Lahore is Hosting the first ever International Conference on Culture as it is not only a Multicultural city but also referred as the cultural heart of Pakistan as it hosts most of the arts, cuisine, festivals, music, film-making, gardening and intelligentsia of the country. The city has always been a center for publications where 80% of Pakistan's books are published, and it remains the foremost center of literary, educational and cultural activity in Pakistan. It is also home to hundreds of temples, mosques, churches and shrines.

In the convergence of culture and narrative, the contemporary and historical story of the human condition is particularly marked by how power and the everyday are negotiated through the experience of displacement and dispossession or privilege and status. Culture, expressed, articulated and represented through sites and locales, practices, actions and values, identities and forms, histories and memories, myths and traditions, is a pivotal lens through which we are able to understand and interpret the way society works, and to see how power and the everyday intersect.
The conference will have exhibition and presentation of over 50 different Cultures to create better and practical understandings for the participants.
We hope and expect that that this first ever and unique Lahore International Conference on Culture will inspire a number of research avenues, and look forward to discussing ideas, findings and synergies, in this international forum.
