On Farm Slaughter & Butchery
In this survey, you will be asked for your opinions regarding a number of potential changes to Vermont's on-farm slaughter (OFS) law of livestock as well as how to best mitigate the devastating meat processing bottleneck. When we refer to OFS, we mean the sale of a living animal for slaughter on the farm where the animal was raised. We are not referring to the slaughter of livestock for a farm's own personal use or to the slaughter of poultry. All results are confidential and will not be shared. This survey is anonymous, though you are invited to share your contact information at the end should you want to stay involved.

Which of the following options describe your participation in the Vermont food system? Choose as many as apply to you.
The current OFS law will sunset (automatically repeal) in July 2023. Should the law be repealed, farmers would still be able to slaughter livestock for their own personal use, but slaughtering livestock on-farm for customers would no longer be legal. Do you support Rural Vermont's advocacy to keep and improve the law?
