Self-Evaluation / Reflection Survey

This is a co-graded course in which I will use my own notes on your progress thus far and your self-evaluation and reflection in order to make my final grade determination. Please complete the following reflection as thoroughly as possible. All questions are required. I anticipate you may need a paragraph when answering each question. Feel free to write as much as possible. Be specific and honest in your responses. I hope this exercise is helpful for you as you continue to grow as a learner.

Before you evaluate yourself, please review the course objectives. Think through how, if at all, you engaged with each objective throughout the course.

  • Evaluate a range of opinions about the purpose of education in the U.S.

  • Interrogate divergent answers to the following questions:

    • Who were schools designed to serve? / Who do schools serve today?

    • Why were schools structured in a particular way? / Who does this structure serve?

    • How do traditional classrooms measure learning?

    • How might we reimagine schools to meet the needs of all students?

  • Establish your own positions about educational issues in the U.S.

  • Develop analytic tools for understanding schools as social and political institutions.

  • Make connections between educational policies, pedagogical practices, and broader social, economic, and political contexts and ideologies.

  • Strengthen your ability to express your positions verbally and in writing.

  • Deepen your ability to collaborate with others who may have differing views than you.
