UTRGV Summer Chess Camps

SUMMER CHESS CAMPS

The camp is designed for K-12 participants of the current academic year. The Camp Director may approve additional requests, if he deems them well justified. The purpose of the camps is to improve students’ chess skills in a fun and engaging environment. To improve the learning efficiency, the participants will be split into training groups. Each group will have 5-10 students. No prior chess knowledge is required to join the camps. A separate instructor will be assigned to each group. Grandmasters Bartek Macieja and Alex Mista will be among the instructors.

SCHEDULE

12:45pm - 1:00pm: Drop off

1:00pm - 2:15pm: Lesson/Activity 1

2:15pm - 2:30pm: Break

2:30pm - 3:45pm: Lesson/Activity 2

3:45pm - 4:00pm: Break

4:00pm - 5:00pm: Training games with analysis

5:00pm - 5:15pm: Pick-Up

On Friday, there will be a camp closing tournament and award ceremony.

$15 transaction fee with at least 3 day notice 

$25 transaction fee less than 3 day notice 

No refund on or after the camp start day

ADDITIONAL INFORMATION

Food will not be provided. Water will be provided.

Late pick-up policy: Campers must be picked up between 5:00 pm and 5:15 pm. If you are late picking up your child, you will be charged a late pickup fee of $15 for the first 15 minutes. If a parent or authorized pick-up person does not arrive or call by 5:30 pm, staff will assume an emergency exists and will begin to call emergency contacts for your child. You will be additionally charged $1 per minute. If no emergency contact can be reached by 5:45 pm, staff will contact the UTRGV Police Department who will pick up the child.
