FIAPO in association with We Animals is thrilled to host renowned photographers Jo-Anne McArthur and Shatabdi Chakrabarti for an exclusive workshop on using photography to create powerful narratives for animal advocacy.
About the mentors:
Jo-Anne McArthur is an award-winning photographer and founder of 'We Animals' (weanimals.org), whose lens has captured animal stories across 60+ countries. Her compelling work is featured in three groundbreaking books: We Animals (2014), Captive (2017), and HIDDEN: Animals in the Anthropocene (2020). Her journey has been documented in Liz Marshall's remarkable film, The Ghosts in Our Machine.
Shatabdi Chakrabarti has been a media professional for the past 14 years. She started her career with NDTV and has worked extensively in both the advertisement and documentary space. Her passion for photography has won her a number of accolades; she won the Conservation Issues category at the NiF Photography Awards 2018 and her work was exhibited at the India Art Fair 2019.
In this workshop, you will learn:
Basics of animal photojournalism and its key role in changing how we perceive and treat animals
Harnessing the power of photography to contextualize animal stories that resonate with humans
Designing visual narratives that spark meaningful and lasting impact
Shifting perspectives through powerful striking imagery
Exposing the world of hidden animals through the lens to foster awareness and amplify advocacy efforts
Date: March 7th & 8th, 2025
Venue:Â All Creatures Great and Small, Faridabad.
Participant Eligibility and Requirements:
Age: No bar
Camera: Any DSLR camera/any model is allowed or a good quality phone will work just fine
Laptop/Tablet: Not required but preferred for editing purposes
Basic Knowledge Required: Not required but prior experience of photography and a certain level of expertise will be beneficial
Other Requirements: No other tools/gadgets are required but if the participants wish they can bring their tripod, lenses, drones etc.
