We are Maine healthcare professionals, active in healthcare organizations in our state and nationally. We are writing to express our concerns about the nomination of Casey Means as Surgeon General.
As active or retired health professionals (unlike Casey Means) we would like to make the following observations:
She would be the first person to be surgeon general who does not have an active license. A “wellness influencer” has no place as a healthcare leader for the country.
Further, she has no government experience, or clinical healthcare experience for that matter.
She has multiple anti-science views. When she appeared on Tucker Carlson’s podcast in 2024, she suggested that the widespread use of hormonal birth control was indicative of a cultural “disrespect of life.” She has also questioned the universal birth dose of the hepatitis-B vaccine and other vaccines.
Not to mention how she speaks with trees and on and on and on.
In short, Casey Means as Surgeon General would cause even more harm to our already wounded healthcare system.
Please support the healthcare of Mainers, and our country as a whole in opposing her nomination.
Sincerely,
Healthcare Advocates of Maine
