Moving Team Volunteer Opportunity

Help families take the exciting next step into their new homes!

Moving Team volunteers assist with collecting, loading, transporting, and setting up furniture, linens, household goods, and other essential items needed to make a house feel like home. Volunteers also help transport families and their belongings from temporary housing to their new apartments.

Greater Portland Family Promise typically assists with approximately two family moves each month, with most moves taking place on weekdays.

Requirements: 

❤️ A big heart and a passion for helping families
💪 Ability to safely carry furniture and household items weighing 50 to 70 pounds
😊 Positive attitude and willingness to work as part of a team

Food Distribution Team Volunteer Opportunity

Help ensure families have access to healthy, culturally appropriate food each month.

Greater Portland Family Promise hosts a monthly food distribution, typically on the last Wednesday of each month from 11:00 AM to 1:00 PM. Volunteers work together to pack individualized food orders and deliver them to families living in our transitional housing and those in their own homes within 45 minutes from Portland.

This is a rewarding opportunity to make a direct impact by helping families meet one of their most basic needs.

Requirements:

📦 Ability to pack and carry grocery bags (light to moderate lifting)
🚗 Reliable transportation is needed for delivery volunteers
😊 Friendly and respectful attitude toward the families we serve

Family Support Partner/Mentors Volunteer Opportunity

Become a trusted friend and source of encouragement for a Family Promise family.

Family Support Partners are individual volunteers or small volunteer teams who build meaningful relationships with a specific family as they work toward housing stability and independence. Volunteers offer practical assistance, encouragement, and companionship by helping families navigate everyday challenges.

Support may include:

🚗 Providing transportation to appointments and errands 

🗣️ Assisting with English conversation and tutoring 
🧼 Donating basic household essentials 
❤️ Offering friendship, encouragement, ongoing support to help families thrive

This flexible volunteer opportunity allows you to make a lasting impact by walking alongside a family during an important chapter of their journey.
