The new Amaranth Apple Food & Music Festival (formerly a Bacon Throwdown format) will be very similar to earlier "Taste of" formats, so you can decide your best dishes you'd like to sell as one of five tasty offerings. The "Amaranth Apple" is a mystical fruit from a Vachel Lindsay utopian novel; when it is tasted, one sees the true beauty of Springfield. So if you want to sprinkle some "Amaranth Apple" into each of your menu items, go ahead! ;) Do you have to use apples? Of course not! Just do what you do best to represent your food!
EXPECTATIONSIn 2016, with 3400 attendees and heat in the high 90s, vendors averaged profits between $2k-$8k. We expect a return to closer to 6,000 attendees this year. With good weather, estimated attendance is 3500 on Friday night and 5000 on Saturday. We run an extensive paid and free media campaign around this DSI festival/fundraiser. Our music headliner is Matthew Sweet, who is considered to have one of the best albums of the 1990's with "Girlfriend." We are also introducing new Lounge areas and increasing our partnerships with the arts community and historic sites. Plus, someone asked the "Big Guy" for favorable weather, so....
