Join us on Thurs Aug 22 from 11:45-1:15pm in Room 116A for a discussion of Alex Galarza’s work with a human rights group in Guatemala to create the GAM Digital Archive. The project aims to digitize, preserve, and provide access to over 3,300 cases of “forced disappearance” during Guatemala’s armed internal conflict (1960-1996). Alex will describe the historical context of Cold War Violence and U.S. intervention, serving as project lead as a CLIR Postdoc at Haverford College Libraries, and developments since the project’s public launch in June. We will also discuss how projects like this one align with our current work on archives, community engagement, learning in digital scholarship, and collaboration with students and faculty.
Feel free to bring your lunch. Beverages and snacks will be provided.
