This training is designed for teachers who are not familiar with the Official Oregon Writing Scoring Guide for Essential Skills. Participants will become familiar with the requirements for Essential Skills in Writing, and will learn the basic skills of scoring a writing work sample for graduation purposes. There will be instruction on the scoring guide and practice scoring several sample papers.
Participants will stay and join more experienced scorers in the afternoon for further practice and refinement of scoring skills. At the end of the afternoon session, participants should feel comfortable with the scoring process. Participants who are trainers in their school, or district will be given pointers to use with staff. Ongoing support by email is offered to everyone at the training. All materials are posted online for trainers to use.
