Climate Study
Dear POETS Student or PostDoc:

POETS is conducting a study to assess the climate (atmosphere of organization) within POETS. We will use the information gathered from this survey to better provide you with a supportive, inclusive work and learning environment.

Your answers will be consolidated, remain confidential and will be not be shared anyone other than POETS’ inclusion director, Dr. Jessica Perez.  A summary of this survey's results will be shared with POETS in October. All identifiable information will be removed. If you have any questions about this survey, please contact Dr. Jessica Perez at jgperez@illinois.edu.

-"Climate" is the atmosphere of an organization as perceived by its members. An organization's climate is reflected in its structure, policies, and practices; the demographics of its members; the attitudes of values of its members and leaders; and the quality of personal interactions. It includes perceptions of inclusiveness, diversity, friendliness, cooperation, professionalism, recognition, respect, accessibility, support and opportunity for advancement.
-"Personal identity" is the concept you develop about yourself that evolves over the course of your life. This may include aspects of your life that you have no control over, such as where you grew up, the color of your skin as well as choices you make in life, such as how you spend your time and what you believe.
-"Inclusion" is a state of being valued, respected and supported. It is about focusing on the needs of every individual and ensuring the right conditions are in place for each person to achieve his or her full potential. Inclusion should be reflected in an organization’s culture, practices and relationships that are in place to support a diverse workforce.
