9th Grade Health Education
Dear Parents/Guardians of Ninth Graders:

Your son/daughter will be taking Health Education during this school year. As part of the Human Sexuality unit, we
will be including the following outcomes:

The student will understand the components and functions of the male and female reproductive systems.
The student will understand the various methods of birth control including abstinence, over-the-counter and
prescription forms of birth control. Students will review the advantages and disadvantages of each method.
The student will appreciate the prevalence and seriousness of the various sexually transmitted infections and will
learn methods of prevention, control and treatment.

Special Note: All freshman students will attend a series of workshops presented by Teen PEP (prevention education
program). Sexual health topics include postponing sexual involvement, abstinence, birth control, sexually
transmitted infections, HIV/AIDS, date rape, sexual harassment and homophobia reduction.

If you would like your son/daughter excluded from this aspect of our Human Sexuality unit based on your family’s
personal values or beliefs, please complete this form within five days of receipt. An alternate health assignment will be scheduled in such cases.
