2018-2019 RAC Teen Action Council Application
Purpose:
Rise Above Colorado is recruiting for its statewide Teen Action Council, which represents teen voices of Colorado on healthy alternatives to drug misuse and helps spread the Rise Above message throughout the state. The Teen Action Council seeks to represent the geographic and personal diversity of youth across the state in order to support Rise Above Colorado in effectively reaching youth with the information and skills to make healthy choices. The Teen Action Council is a key driver in Rise Above Colorado’s mission and strategy and the organization depends on members’ input, leadership, and inspiration throughout all efforts.
Time Commitment:
We will ensure that your commitment to the Teen Action Council will not take away from your other commitments, like school. Members will be required to attend a two-day orientation June 9th/10th and three subsequent in-person meetings, where you will work with other Teen Action Council members to help advance ideas and develop next steps. All meetings will be held in Metro Denver and all travel expenses (e.g. lodging and gas mileage) will be reimbursed. Periodic 1-hour meetings through web and/or telephone conferencing may additionally be required. Each member will serve a minimum one-year term that will coincide with the 2018-2019 school year.
Training and Expectations:
Teen Action Council members will be trained in informal and formal outreach, education strategies (Not Prescribed), including media literacy, facilitating lessons, and any other additional trainings deemed helpful.
The Teen Action Council has three primary strategies for 2018-2019:
Capture: RAC TAC runs a Snapchat story to complement RAC’s larger social media campaign. TAC is also encouraged, but not required, to contribute to the On The Rise campaign through their own social media accounts.

Educate: RAC has a number of prevention lessons that are designed for teens to facilitate in their own classes or clubs. RAC staff will train and support TAC members interested in contributing to their own community in this way.

Engage: RAC encourages TAC members to find unique ways to engage their own communities and encourage their peers to Rise Above drug misuse and addiction. As the feet on the ground day in and day out, you are the expert! RAC staff will train TAC and offer support in these efforts.

Meeting Details and Compensation:
Most in-person meetings will be a full-day followed by an evening of team building at a fun event/venue. Rise Above Colorado will provide a stipend ($10/hour) for all meetings and will pay for all food and entertainment during the meeting and team building activities. Rise Above Colorado will also sign for community service hours for any hours contributed beyond in-person meetings and team building activities. If you would prefer to use the meeting time as community service hours instead of receiving payment, please let us know.
Application Process:
Teens will be selected through an application and interview process led by current TAC members. Youth ages 12-17 (or entering grades 6-11 if enrolled in school) are eligible and encouraged to apply.

Applications must be received by no later than April 23rd. Interviews will be scheduled for the week of April 30th. This application must be completed in full. Guardian consent is required along with 1 letter of reference. Teachers, coaches, school counselors, community and business leaders are all acceptable references.

Only complete applications with 1 letter of reference will be considered.
