Health and Physical Education Curriculum Standards

The New Jersey State Learning Standards for Comprehensive Health and Physical Education were recently revised in an effort to continue the promotion of healthy, responsible choices for all students. The standards are organized by grade level to ensure age appropriateness and can be viewed at:

New Jersey Student Learning Standards - Comprehensive Health and Physical Education

Our Family Life Curriculum supports this effort by providing our students with important information about a variety of health topics. Additionally, we invite you to examine and discuss this information with your child prior to these instructional units at school.

Providing Family Life instruction is mandatory for New Jersey schools and we encourage families to have their students participate in these essential health topics. However, we do want to remind parents/guardians that they have the option of excluding their child from any portion of sexuality education instruction if it is in conflict with their conscience, or their moral or religious beliefs.  If so, you may opt your child out of a specific lesson or unit by filling out the attached questionnaire found below and sending it in to your child’s health education teacher. Students who are excused will be assigned to a separate classroom for alternate lessons.
