8 & Under Group – This practice group will continue with the basics of the 4 strokes plus the IM event. As they become more proficient, they will be taught starts and turns for each stroke, and the distances will increase. We ask that swimmers in this group attend a minimum of 2 practices a week but encourage them to come to all 3 practices. When a swimmer achieves 2 BB times (a USA Swimming Time Standard), Coaches may then invite the swimmer to move up and practice with the next age group. These times are available through the USA Swimming web-site or can be found on the SVST Information Board at the pool.
9 & 10 Group – As our swimmers mature, the emphasis on stroke mechanics continues. More time is spent at distance swims, improving their endurance which will help them throughout their life. Relay Exchanges, Race Starts, for each of the strokes and turns are further refined. Proper hydration and nutrition are introduced. Swimmers are encouraged to attend the 4 practices offered so that they can develop the endurance necessary for longer swims (100 yds and 200 yds).
11 + Group – While the emphasis on stroke mechanics continues, more time is now spent on distance swims. Most of the events this group swims will be 100, 200, 400 and 500 yards in length. Maintaining good technique at longer distances becomes an important metric.
