RMR Virtual Levée: 01 January 2021
The Honorary Colonel of The Royal Montreal Regiment requests the honour of your presence at the first (and hopefully last) virtual Levée, to be held on Friday, 01 January 2021 from 11h00 - 12h00 EST.
RSVP before noon on 31 December 2020 by completing this survey, and link to the virtual gathering will be sent to the email address that you list.
We're doing this because we cannot get together physically, but marking the New Year with a Levée is an important - and uniquely Canadian - custom that helps us bond together as a Regimental family. While we must forego the pleasure of greeting each other in person, we can still gather virtually and exchange best wishes for the New Year.
Attire: BECAUSE this is a pandemic year, please do your best to be respectable, at least from the waist up. Normally, since Levée, in tradition and practice, is associated with greeting the head of government at the beginning of a new year, all those attending Levée are expected to wear their “full court dress”. Soldiers are expected to wear their best dress uniforms, which includes medals (and for officers, swords).
Refreshments: BYOB, however if you would like to attempt to make the traditional RMR Moose Milk, here is the official recipe as handed down from RQMS Harold Goldstein, a WW2 veteran and the officers' mess steward for nearly 30-years. You may wish to consider lessening the quantities if you are abiding by lockdown restrictions and making it for less than 60 people at a time...
Dark rum – 40 oz (1.18 litres)
Vodka – 20 oz (600 ml)
Kahlúa – 20 oz (600 ml)
Disaronno – 20 oz (600 ml)
Egg nog – 4 litres
Vanilla ice cream – 4 litres
Nutmeg & cinnamon to taste
