Miami Beach Compost Bin sign-up

Who: All Miami Beach residents living in single-family homes can now compost for free at home.

What: The Backyard Bin Composting program collects food scraps, food-soiled paper, and yard waste and turns it into compost without leaving your backyard. There is a limited number of bins currently available for single-family homes in the city of Miami Beach. The bin holds 34 gallons and requires a location with full sunlight for best results. In hot sunny conditions and with a proper balance of ingredients the compost can finish in as little as 2 weeks!

Why: Instead of disposing of yard trimmings and kitchen scraps, which will end up in the landfill and produce Greenhouse Gas Emissions such as methane, nitrous oxide and carbon dioxide from the anaerobic decomposition of organic waste, you can now compost them for FREE in your own backyard!  The objective of the Backyard Bin Compost program is to help residents divert between 20 to 80 pounds of waste per month per each household.

How to participate: If you live in a single-family home within Miami Beach city limits, please register below to obtain a FREE compost bin. (First come first served - supply is limited). Training is included.

This project is funded in part by a grant from the City of Miami Beach.
