PROGRAM OVERVIEW
Together for Nature offers a paid Mentorship for Sustainability Program open to youth (16+) and young professionals. The program is focused on involving mentees in sustainability efforts and equipping them with skills and knowledge that will help them in their academic, community, and professional journeys, preparing them to participate in a green future and lead sustainability change. We are working for sustainability that advances environmental health, social equity and economic vitality to achieve thriving, diverse and resilient communities for this generation and future generations.
WHAT DOES BEING A MENTEE INVOLVE?
Mentees will contribute to advancing sustainability initiatives of their and surrounding Chicagoland communities through their personal development and contributions to local projects.
KEY ASPECTS OF THE PROGRAM
- Building Relationships: Connect with experienced sustainability leaders and professionals.
Educational & Skill Development: Learn through a combination of virtual and hands-on activities and final project and educational, leadership, and networking opportunities.
Diverse Topics: Explore subjects such as stream/wetland restoration, lobbying, environmental justice, pollinator gardens, and more!
Honorarium Pay Rate: $15 per hour
PROGRAM SESSIONS AND TIMELINE
The Mentorship for Sustainability Program runs in Fall and Spring.
Fall Session:
Spring Session:PROGRAM COMMITMENTS
Required Meetings:
- Orientation: Virtual orientation: Monday, February 2, 6:45 pm - 7:00 pm
Monthly Zoom Check-ins: Fourth Mondays, 6:30 pm - 8 pm
Youth for Sustainability Lessons: hosted in monthly check-ins
Time Commitment Overview: 6 hours per month
1 hour for mentoring meetings
1 hour for monthly virtual check-in calls
.5-1 hour for Youth for Sustainability Trainings
3+ hours for sustainability work, events, volunteering, and project completion
Project Requirement: Complete a project pertaining to your mentorship topic or a final presentation summarizing your experience and work completed during your mentorship program participation
