Blue Valentine & Driftwood "KIDS Bid" Scholarship Application
2024 Scholarship Application

The Award:

BV&D “KIDS Bid” Scholarship fund will award one eligible student, 17 years of age or older.  Recipient must be currently enrolled in their first or second year of college or have plans to attend a post-high school educational institution with an interest in pursuing a career in Agriculture (farming, ranching, agribusiness) or in Education. The scholarship amount is $1,500.

The money for this scholarship is from the “KIDS BID ONLY” held at the BV&D Heritage Production Sale.  The year 2021 was our first-time allowing kid ages 16 & under only, to bid at the Blue Valentine and Driftwood Heritage Production Sale (BV&D).  The sale is held annually in September.  Our breeders group includes four horse ranches: Lauing Quarter Horse Ranch (South Dakota), Sunrise Farms (Alabama), Moonshine Creek Quarter Horses (Arkansas).

This scholarship was created with the intention of keeping our youth engaged and interested in agriculture or educating future generation(s).  The idea for the “KIDS BID ONLY” came from an experience that JD Lauing, one of the BV&D breeders had when he was a young man when his father allowed him the opportunity to bid on and purchase a horse at auction. JD, as well as the other breeders wanted other kids to have that same feeling of responsibility, being able to bid on an animal that they could call their own, watch it grow up, and be a part of their daily lives.  We had no idea how much the colt would bring but knew that it would sell to the highest bidder.  The first ever “KIDS BID ONLY” was so successful, the BV&D breeders group decided to use the proceeds to develop an endowment fund for kids 17 and older that would be going to college for their freshman or sophomore year. The first BV&D Scholarship was awarded in 2022 and we plan to offer this annual scholarship for many years to come.
