Yes! Anyone in CPS can take this training including staff members from elementary and/or middle schools.
Previously credentialed members:
You will have the opportunity to opt out from the training this year if you pass the pre-assessment with a 80% or higher. If you are a first timer and pass the pre-assessment, we encourage you receive the full training.
Please note that this training is updated annually and required for CPS staff to complete every year as immigration laws and policies change from day to day and new postsecondary opportunities become available to our students.
Also, we will be hosting three mini-crash courses for advanced/previously credentialed members. Please check those out by
clicking here to register.
If you have any questions about the training, please contact Susana Mares at
smares5@cps.edu (Undocumented Champion Program Manager).
WHY ATTEND THIS TRAINING? Because survey results indicate that only 42% of undocumented students feel their school counselor provides postsecondary supports specific to their needs. Resources around the three counseling domains will be addressed and shared to ensure we provide a smoother advising model for this population of students.
Please note that this is a virtual training. You should expect a Google Calendar invite every Friday; Meeting link and agenda will be shared 1-2 days prior to this event. Until you receive the official calendar invite, please create your own HOLD on your calendar to save the date and time.
WHAT IS THE COST OF THIS TRAINING? This training is FREE and open to all CPS Staff members (including teachers, counselor interns, options schools).
Unfortunately, this training is no longer open to external partners. Please contact us at smares5@cps.edu if you are an external partner to learn more about our current supports for undocumented students.
Thank you for your continued dedication in supporting this population of students!
