CILAS Application Form 2014

Dear applicant,

Kindly read the following introductory note before completing the application form.

In applying to the Cairo Institute of Liberal Arts and Sciences CILAS, you seek admission to a yearlong study programme in the liberal arts. CILAS offers students from all walks of life the opportunity to pursue liberal arts education. CILAS admits twenty-four students per academic year in order to ensure a personalised learning experience.

The three basic requirements for admission are:

1. Students must have completed at least high school. (Bachelor's degree is an asset but not required)
2. Students should be proficient in spoken and written English.
3. Students are required to commit a minimum of twenty-five hours a week.

The academic year at CILAS runs from the beginning of September until mid-June the following year. The curriculum at CILAS is divided into four fields of study. All students complete core courses in the fields Arts, Culture, Social Sciences and Natural Sciences.Study at CILAS is intellectually demanding. Students can attend classes in the morning, afternoon or evening.

CILAS uses as its core method of instruction Discussion Based Learning which relies heavily on the participation of students. You have to find out what you don’t know. The only difference between the teachers and students is that the teachers know how to be students. They are not the ones who know the answers, but the ones who know how to find out.

Students actively participate in organising activities and decision-making through a student council. CILAS invites students from diverse backgrounds to apply. High school attendance is used as an indicator of someone's financial ability. CILAS provides need-based scholarships which cover half of study fees. Study fees amount to 5000 L.E. and cannot be reimbursed.

The deadline for application is July 15th.

We look forward to reviewing your application and inviting you for an interview!

On behalf of the CILAS Team and with best wishes,

Karim-Yassin Goessinger

Programme Director
