The ISMIR2021 Newcomer Initiatives Chairs are excited to announce that this year’s ISMIR conference will offer Newcomer Squads! This initiative will place attendees who are new to ISMIR in small groups along with a squad leader.

We are seeking experienced community members to participate as Newcomer Squad Leaders. If you are interested in helping new attendees gain a foothold in the community and navigate the conference, please read on!

Who is eligible to be a Newcomer Squad Leader?
- You have attended 2 or more ISMIR conferences (in person and/or virtually).
- You plan to attend most or all of the ISMIR2021 conference in your time zone.

What is expected of me?
- Newcomer Squads will operate in a group (text) chat format on the conference platform. Squads will include you and ~6-8 ISMIR newcomers in a similar time zone.
- You’ll introduce yourself to your squad and briefly share your experience in MIR.
- You commit to checking in daily with your squad and answering any questions they may have.
