What is gendered violence?
Gendered violence “refers to physical, verbal, emotional, sexual, and visual brutality that is inflicted disproportionately or exclusively on members of one sex” (Gendered Lives, Wood, 2011) and “this violence is often triggered by gender non-conformity; assailants attack masculine women and feminine men, assuming they are homosexual” (Invisible Lives, Namaste, 2000).
