Through the use of hip-hop, spoken word, and digital literacy, Cyphers For Justice provides a space for youth voice, youth research, and youth activism for teens between the ages of 14-19.
We invite you to apply for the Spring 2024 cohort (
Deadline: February 8, 2024 at 11:59pm). Once accepted, youth must commit to CFJ weekly workshops, which will take place on Fridays from 4:00pm-6:30 from Friday, February 9th - Friday, June 14th.
Cyphers For Justice youth will have the opportunity to:
•
Work with peers to create self-directed research and social action projects in multimodal formats.
•
Learn hip-hop, spoken word, and critical multimedia literacy skills
•
Critically analyze issues related to their communities, at the intersection of social justice and race, class, gender, language, dis/abilities, and other categories of difference
•
Work closely with a team of youth leaders, teaching artists, Columbia University graduate students, and professors
• Present at 2024 youth gatherings with Cyphers for Justice, and other local or national opportunities
