Dear FHS Alumni,
In November, 2024, Massachusetts Election Ballot Question #2 was approved by voters. As a result, the Massachusetts Department of Elementary and Secondary Education repealed the requirement that students must achieve a certain competency level on the Massachusetts Comprehensive Assessment System (MCAS) exam to graduate high school and receive a diploma.
In February of 2025, the Fairhaven School Committee approved a new Competency Determination for the Class of 2025. The new CD includes the following:
1. Successful completion of English 9 and 10
2. Successful completion of Algebra I and Geometry
3. Successful completion of Biology or Chemistry or Another Lab-Based full year Science Course
This new Competency Determination applies to FHS alumni (Class of 2003-2024) who completed high school and received a certificate of completion, but did not successfully pass the MCAS assessment and were not awarded a high school diploma.
If you have any additional questions, please reach out to us at (508) 979-4051.
Sincerely,
FPS/FHS Administration Team
